Electronic filing is the crux of the ACE system. In addition to allowing registered attorneys to file pleadings and other documents electronically with the court from the convenience of their home or office, it gives court users the ability to electronically file any case related document and control how those documents are noticed and viewed. This provides for reduced cost and labor spent producing, filing and noticing documents manually. There are several changes in electronic filing with ACE 2.0. The first major change is that all cases are deemed electronic and attorneys can file electronically to any case in District Court. This is due to the recent abolishment of the Motion Packet Rule. Therefore, because it is no longer necessary to motion the court to initiates electronic filing in a case, chambers staff do not have to file an order allowing electronic filing. This alleviates past problems associated with having the case "turned on" for electronic filing.
