2006-33: Changes in the Court's Opinion Retrieval System

Changes in the Court’s Opinion Retrieval System

The E-Government Act of 2002 requires courts to provide public access to judges' opinions free of charge. The opinion retrieval system we have been using [see "Opinions" on the court’s homepage menu] is shared with the District Court, and coincident with the District Court’s conversion to CM-ECF in January, that opinion retrieval system is being terminated. A new report, entitled "Written Opinions," is available now in CM-ECF and PACER under the Reports menu. Access to opinions in this Written Opinions report is free. On January 2, this report will replace the Court’s existing opinions retrieval system. At that time, all of Judge McFeeley's and Judge Starzynski's opinions will be available in the Written Opinions report.

Using the Written Opinions report in CM-ECF, you may search for opinions by party name, case number or filing date range. Unfortunately, the ability to perform a key word search or to search by judge or citation is not available in the Written Opinions report. Search tips and specifications for using the Written Opinions report are posted on the Court’s "Procedures" web page.
